Obituary of Don Marenus
Don W. Marenus, age 62 of Brockport, died suddenly at his residence 1/3/2017. He was born 12/30/1954 to Frederick and Jane(Tompkins)Marenus and was a lifetime resident of this area.
Don served over 42 years in the Fire Service having been a member of the Gates Volunteer Fire Department, Captain with the Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department and as a Past Chief and still active member of the Brockport Fire Department. He had also served in the past as a Dispatcher for the Brockport Fire District. Mr. Marenus had many things he enjoyed in life such as playing his bass guitar for several local bands as he had a passion for music. He also enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, following the NY Giants, the Buffalo Sabres and being a self-proclaimed BBQ/Smoking Aficionado. Don had a wonderful sense of humor, was Ham Radio nerd and considered himself to be an Amateur Meterologist.
He is survived by his son: Andrew Marenus of Brockport, his daughter: Jessica(Jim Rankine)Marenus of Rochester, his brother David Marenus of Gates, his beloved dog, “Gunner” as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc. 16650 State Route 31-(Holley) WEDNESDAY from 3-7 p.m. where a Fireman’s Honor Service will be held at 7 p.m. immediately following visitation. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, P.O. Drawer 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
